Jerry Carter, the original owner opened Dogma! in 2002 after he had finally had enough of being disappointed in the options available to him and his Yellow Labrador "Pebbles" when it came to shopping for dog food and supplies. With the canine population in south Orange County growing steadily, Jerry knew there was a demand for a one-stop-shop specializing in the type of high quality products he used for his own dog. His belief that there was a better way to shop for all things dog lead to the opening of the first Dogma! in Newport Coast, CA. In 2004 he opened a second location in the growing neighborhood of Quail Hill in Irvine.
In 2006 Jerry decided to sell Dogma! to another animal lover. Martnel Bonacquisti left the corporate world she had been in for 3 decades to live out her lifelong dream of spending her days with animals and the people who adore them. Martnel had been deeply involved in animal rescue for 25 years and brought extensive knowledge and experience in animal health, nutrition and behavior to Dogma! .
